What happens in a Teen Girls Process Group?

First Session

The first session of group will be all about introductions and meeting one another. I love starting with the “Squiggle Activity” and then we talk about the shared agreement you have for group including talking about confidentiality. You will also talk with the group about what your goals are and what you want to get out of being there.

Topics

The topics that come up in process groups include but are not limited to:

  • Mental health

  • Body Image

  • School issues

  • Friendship issues

  • Family issues

  • Identity and Self Esteem

Process

Process groups are all about processing how we feel in the “here and now”. What that means is that while we are talking about all sorts of topics in group, your group leader will be helping you get more in touch with the feelings and thoughts that are coming up for you in the moment as you are having them and will help you understand better how other people affect you and you will learn more about how you affect other people.

Activities

There will often be activities that your group leader will bring up in order to help the group move to a deeper place of being able to do the work that brought everyone here. They activities are fun and can also be intense in order to help you connect in a deeper way to the other group members.

Follow up

Your group therapist will send a monthly email to your parents and individual therapist with the general topics and themes that came up in the group that month. Your group therapist will also schedule one on one calls with your parents and your therapist once a month to catch up about how things have been going in your life in general and hear if there are any concerns that your group therapist should know about.
